Natural Nail Length Guide: Short, Medium or Long?

The best nail length is not the one that looks best in somebody else’s photo. It is the length that still works when you type, travel, clean, work out and use your hands normally.

Short natural nails

Short nails are practical for active routines and can still look polished with French, nude, milky pink, chrome or small design details.

They are also useful if you are trying to grow out damage or simply want less maintenance.

Medium natural nails

Medium length gives more room for shape and design while still being manageable for many people day to day.

Soft square, squoval and almond shapes can all work depending on the natural nail and fingertip shape.

Longer natural nails

Long natural nails can create a more dramatic silhouette, but they also create more leverage when the tip catches on something.

If you regularly break nails at a certain length, that is useful information when discussing structure and shape with a nail technician.

Let your routine choose the length

Think about work, workouts, childcare, travel, cleaning and how often you want maintenance. The most attractive length is usually the one you can keep comfortably without constantly fighting it.
